With more than 20 years of experience in music lessons, Maureen Johnson provides instruction in piano and voice. She is motivated by her love of music and the passion to transfer her knowledge and skills to others so their creativity and talent can shine.
A life-long love of music began in a little country church when five-year-old Maureen, along with her two younger sisters, sang a trio about the Christmas candles. In grade school she accompanied the school orchestra and by junior high was asked to play for the high school choir and orchestra. High school brought accompanying soloists and playing for ensembles, orchestra and choirs, including the Washington all-state choir.
As an adult she has been involved in her local church music as well as accompanying, arranging, directing choirs and ensembles.
She has taught piano and voice for many years, which included teaching at a private school where her students qualified for national competition thirteen years in a row. Maureen loves teaching - all ages - and believes it's never too late to start learning!
She says, "Mastering the basics enables you to branch out into the styles of music you enjoy."
She is married to George Johnson, who holds a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the "Saltosaurus," a C/gas lakester.
They have three children and six grandchildren.
Maureen is a member of the Olympia Music Teachers Association, where she served on the Board for three years.
She is also a member of Washington State Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association.
In addition to teaching, she is pianist/vocalist for Off Boulevard, a swing/jazz vocal group.
